Pre trip breathalyzer check for truck drivers
1. Observe the maker's waiting period
Follow the manual after eating, drinking, smoking or mouthwash. S80 instructions require 20 minutes after eating, drinking or smoking. Start early enough to complete preparation before duty. This sample preparation wait does not replace the separate four hour alcohol prohibition.
2. Fit a fresh mouthpiece
Use a compatible fresh mouthpiece for each test. Keep unused pieces wrapped and separate from used ones, especially with shared equipment. Confirm the correct fit through our mouthpiece guide, then follow the prompts for the breath sample.
3. Take two tests a few minutes apart
Record both results rather than choosing the lower one. Use a fresh mouthpiece for the repeat and observe any longer interval the maker requires. An unexpected result calls for proper preparation and checking the equipment, not repeated immediate blows until zero appears.
4. Stop if either result is above zero
Do not go on duty with any reading above zero. Contact the appropriate dispatcher or supervisor about duty arrangements. A personal test cannot override a required DOT procedure, and a later zero reading does not erase the four hour restriction.
5. Keep a useful personal log
If you are an owner operator, record the time, displayed value and unit, device identifier and calibration status. Keep both readings together. Label these as personal self checks so they cannot be mistaken for DOT alcohol testing forms or formal clearance.
6. Keep calibration current
Schedule S80 and Trace send-in service before it becomes overdue. Track Revo module age and test count, and check replacement compatibility. Our breathalyzer calibration guide helps plan service. A working display alone does not show that calibration remains current.
