Breathalyzer finder that matches you to a tester in four questions
Answer four short questions about who will use the tester, how precise it needs to be, how often you will blow into it and where it will live. The finder recommends a sensor type and two or three matching models from our comparison, with a short note on why each one fits. It runs in your browser and takes under a minute.

How the breathalyzer finder decides
The finder is a plain rules table, not a black box. Each answer narrows the field in a fixed order, and the result explains which rule did the most work. Models come from our own comparison data, which is built on the manufacturer's published specifications and public documentation.
- Precision sets the sensor. "Rough check" allows a semiconductor sensor. "Reliable personal reading" requires a fuel cell sensor. "Near-professional" requires a fuel cell sensor with a documented calibration service, and leans toward professional grade units.
- Who it is for adjusts the floor. "Family or teen driver" never returns a semiconductor model, because a parent needs a reading that can be trusted on a hard night. "Workplace or rehab" and "Bar or event" move the result to professional fuel cell units built for frequent use and many users.
- How often sets durability. "A few times a year" is fine for a small personal unit. "Weekly" favors models with a clear recalibration route. "Daily or many people" favors professional units, replaceable sensor modules and easy access to mouthpieces.
- Carry or keep sets the form. "Keychain" and "Pocket handheld" match compact devices, "Phone-connected" matches units that pair with an app, and "Wall or desk" matches wall-mounted and desktop units for shared spaces.
When the answers pull in different directions, precision and the user group win over form. If you ask for near-professional accuracy on a keychain, the finder tells you that no keychain model meets that bar and suggests the closest pocket handheld instead.
If no model matches all four answers, the finder says so and points you to the full ranking rather than forcing a weak match.
What to do with your result
Read the one-line reason for each model, then open its review to see the published specifications, the calibration route and the questions worth asking before you buy. If two models look close, the best breathalyzer ranking compares them side by side by use case.
Not sure what the sensor label means? The fuel cell vs semiconductor breathalyzer comparison explains the difference in a few minutes, and how we review breathalyzers shows the rules behind every recommendation.
Typical breathalyzer finder results
- A personal check a few times a year, carried on keys, usually leads to a compact unit. See keychain breathalyzers for the trade-offs of small sensors.
- A reliable personal reading in a pocket handheld usually leads to a fuel cell unit from our personal breathalyzers list.
- A family with a teen driver usually lands on a best home breathalyzer pick with a fuel cell sensor and a simple display.
- A workplace, rehab or sober living house usually lands on professional breathalyzers, with calibration logs and replaceable mouthpieces.
- A bar or event with many guests usually lands on a wall mounted breathalyzer.
What the finder cannot do
The finder helps you choose a device. It does not estimate your blood alcohol and cannot tell you whether you can drive. For a rough estimate from drinks and time, use the bac calculator, and remember that any estimate or personal reading is only a screening figure.
